Extra Credit

I've had an idea niggling away at my brain. There are so many wonderful people participating in the Project of Doom from all over the world that I would like a special way to document your participation. It's a little bit selfish, but if you like, you can think of it as your "payment" for participation in the PoD.

What is this Herculean task I have for you?

I would love a signature block from each person that is participating in the Project of Doom. These blocks would all go in one quilt as a tribute to the wonderful quilting community we've built! This project has been so amazing and special for me that I would love to complete the PoD Signature Quilt before 2012 so that I can show it in my local quilt guild's show next year, including the story of the PoD.

And yes, this is just for me, see...selfish! I will, however, donate $1 to the Red Cross for each person that sends a block by December 1, 2011, so while you're sharing a block with me for the posterity of the PoD, you'll also be helping others. It's a win-win situation, really!

The instructions are simple:

Print out this pattern (also available as traditionally pieced). Piece the pattern using your PoD background fabric for the center (it's a small piece and should not detract from what you need for the project). Use scraps from your PoD blocks for the corners.

Add your name to the background fabric in the center. You can embroider (hand or machine), stencil, use fabric pens or any other permanent technique. The final look is up to you!

When completed, you'll have a 7" (7.5" unfinished) block. Please leave the paper on if possible.

When you're done, fold your block in half, paper-side out and place it in an envelope to mail to me any time before the end of the Project of Doom.

My mailing address is on the pattern. If you'd like for me to let you know when I receive your block, please include your email address. I will also post the blocks here to hp_paperpiecing .

Also? Thank you. Thank you for participating in the PoD and thank you for sharing your time with me each week. Thank you for your enthusiasm and encouragement and, preemptively, thank you for your signature block!

What a wonderful idea! Selfish? I don't think so.... It is a small price to pay for the fun we are having.

Re: Signature
Thanks! I was hoping that would be the general sentiment...but you never know! I'm very excited by the idea of a quilt from everyone in the group. :)

Oh yay!!! I'd love to pay you back for all your hard work and dEdication in a much bigger way but this is the least I can do. You don't care what the corner fabrics are? As long as they were used in a block?

You can use any fabrics in the corners you like. I think using fabric that you used in your quilt will make it more special!

Could you use all three background fabrics in the middle? I think that would be fun!

What a fantastic idea! Just like the friendship quilts of yore. What a beautiful reminder of all PoD friends! Quite the opposite of selfish, if you ask me! :)

It was my grandmother's signature quilt that gave me the idea. This pattern is the same configuration as her blocks. :)

You KNOW I'm trying not to start any new projects. And then I started the POD. And now you want me to start a NEW new project? When will this end?
Hey.....really.....you know me and how I love a new project. And I can't WAIT to see this one finished. I'm definitely in!
Thank you.

I'm so sorry, it's extremely selfish (just kidding). It's a wonderful opportunity to give something back. I certainly make one for you. You keep this group so vivid. Always comment on every-ones comments. Deep respect for your patterns. Well... deep respect for you!

I have a question, do you want us to use both our journal names and real names or one or the other?? Just want to make sure because it will change the idea I have.
Thanks Jennifer :0)

You can use either or both, it's totally up to you. I wanted to give the option to anyone that didn't feel comfortable sharing their real name, but also because I know some of you buy only a username. :)

Absolutely will do! Though... what to pick for the four corners! Will just have to don some borrowed Gryfindor Courage and plunge ahead. (Not sure which House is for a chronic procrastinator - I sweat the 'small stuff' waaaaay too much!!!) :D Honestly - thanks for all you do to inspire us each and every week!

I'm excited for this one. Is it bad if I want to wait until we're almost done? I don't know what fabrics I'm going to use, and I want it to be an accurate representation of the quilt as a whole.
